Asia-Pacific Copyright Enforcer Award 2006
The 'ACE AWARD' is a TOP ASIAN COPYRIGHT AWARD and serves to recognized the dedication and achievements of those tasked with fighting film piracy within the Asia Pacific Region. The award is given during the CineAsia convention held in Beijing, China. CineAsia is the largest convention focusing on the Motion Picture Theater Industry in Asia.
Mr. Neil Gane, Senior Director of Operations in Asia-Pacific of Motion Picture Association International has written President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo a letter commending Chairman Eduardo Manzano for his dedication in protecting intellectual property rights in the Philippines.
U.S. Government Praises Philippines for Improved IPR Enforcement
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has made a determination to lower Philippines from the Priority Watch List to the Watch List under the Special 301 Review, which examines in detail the adequacy and effectiveness of intellectual property rights (IPR) protection. The "Out-of-Cycle Review" concluded that throughout 2005, the Philippines bolstered implementation of its legislation that passed to stop illegal production of pirated optical discs such as CDs and DVDs by controlling the licensing of and conducting raids on retail stores selling pirated and counterfeit goods.

The local Film Industry showed a remarkable turn-around in 2006. The box office revenues of local films grew by 40% to P1.437 billion in 2006 from 1.025 billion in 2005. This was the first year in the last 7 years that local films box office revenues have grown.
