OMB Concludes Successful Cinema Monitoring

Upholding its duty to fight piracy and igniting the spirit of volunteerism, the Optical Media Board held the MMFF 2017 Cinema Monitoring Enforcement Activities from December 25, 2017 to January 7, 2018. Over 1,000 agents, volunteers and partner agencies collaborated in this effort to prevent MMFF movies from being illegally recorded and pirated. 

CASE VS OMB PERSONNEL FOR ALLEGED GUN-TOTING DISMISSED

The complaint filed for light threats against Agent Ronnie Tampinco of Optical Media Board was dismissed on August 4, 2017 by the Office of the Prosecutor, Quezon City due to lack of interest on the part of the complainant, MMDA Team Leader Mr. Larry M. Miravite to pursue the case.

On May 24, 2017, Mr. Miravite accused Agent Tampinco for allegedly cursing and gun toting during an MMDA towing operation along Scout Tobias Street, Barangay Laging Handa.

Monthly Enforcement Operations Accomplishment

In July 2017, OMB Agents conducted inspections in various areas in Metro Manila, Region 4-A (Calabarzon/Southern Tagalog), 6 (Western Visayas), and 8 (Eastern Visayas).

A total of  hundred forty two stalls/establishment were inspected, and said operations during the period led to the seizure of 600,062 pieces of pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, as well as 85,990 pieces of blank CDs, all amounting to an estimated value of PhP210.88-Million.

Provincial Inspection Operations

For the Period covering July 20-22, 2017, Agents conducted routine inspections in various areas of Iloilo City and Negro Ocidental.

A total of fifty business stalls were inspected, which led to the seizure of around 227,600 or more pieces pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, as well as 300 blank discs, 3 DVD players and 1 computer unit, all amounting to an estimated value of PhP79.69-Million.

Provincial Inspection Operations

For the Period covering July 04-06, 2017, Agents conducted routine inspections in various areas of the Laguna and Quezon Provinces, where illegal compact discs were reportedly being openly sold to the public.

A total of fifty three business stalls were inspected, which led to the seizure of around 44,000 or more pieces pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, amounting to an estimated value of PhP15.40-Million.

Provincial Inspection Operations

For the Period covering July 04-06, 2017, Agents conducted routine inspections in Catbalogan, Samar and Tacloban City, Leyte. Areas which were not inspected for at least three years.

A total of fifty business stalls were inspected, which led to the seizure of around 268,800 or more pieces pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, as well as 1,520 blank discs, 46 DVD players, 23 DVD writers, and 1 hard disc drive, all amounting to an estimated value of PhP94.26-Million.
